Jazz Band Mardi Gras

Arno Tuts
Jazz Band Mardi Gras
4/03/11
Hours: 2

1.                  In this activity I played Alto Saxophone in the Jazz Band for the Mardi Gras dinner at Rosslyn Ridge. We played several fun carnival jazz songs for the small group of guests that were there to eat a buffet. We all put on facemasks and played for about an hour. We interacted with some of the diners who were listening but we mainly interacted with each other.
2.                  During this activity I hoped to accomplish gaining more experience on the Alto Saxophone and to gain more concert experience. I also hoped to entertain the diners.
3.                  I believe that I was successful in achieving my goals. I was able to gain some extra playing and concert experience on the Alto Saxophone and I think we were successful at entertaining the guests. However there were not many guests during the time we were playing. This made it a bit less interesting to play but we continued as planned and left when we were done.
4.                  I learned that I am able to play many songs comfortably with not much practice because some of the songs we only got right before the Mardi Gras concert. This helped me realize that I have already got good experience with my Alto Saxophone.
5.                  My peers in Jazz Band helped me play with more comfort and my director, Mr. Ligon, helped us all realize that we were there to have fun playing and that it was a good opportunity to improve on our playing as a band.
6.                  This activity helped the band gain experience and it helped the band realize what we had to work on as a band. It also gave the diners at the Mardi Gras dinner a background music to listen to.
